BACKGROUNDBasinWide Hydrologics includes several useful models designed to compute a variety of statistics for any user defined geographic area, in this case, 96 Oregon sub-basins. The model currently uses only PRISM generated precipitation and temperature gridded data sets to compute a 109 year monthly time series beginning January 1895. These 4 km gridded data sets are available for free download online from Spatial Climate Analysis Service . Future incorporation of additional parameters seems like a logical next step in the evolution of BasinWide Hydrologics and further development to this pilot model should be available here at a later date. METHODSBasinWide Hydrologics uses an ArcInfo driven Arc Macro Language script in conjunction with Microsoft Access, MySQL, and PHP to deliver an ArcInfo model output as a user friendly web-based application. In addition to long-term climate data, general sub-basin attributes are stored in the MySQL database and are displayed when a particular basin is selected by the user. Metadata for sub-basin definitions are available online from Oregon Geospatial Enterprises Office. In the future, the model will include quantitative topographic information for each delineated sub-basin including topographic range, mean elevation, and other useful variables as the data and time become available.
